One of our cherished long-term clients is local campervan conversion company Hillside Leisure. Along with the building and hosting of their bespoke website we also provide support with their blog posts. We recently took a detailed look at the VW Cromford – a campervan with a difference. Here’s the article Rich wrote for their website:
The VW Cromford Campervan – The Luxury of Convenience

When you look at campervan options it seems the most popular layout is a traditional side conversion with the kitchen running along the edge and a double rock and roll bed towards the back.
How about something completely different?
- What about four spacious travelling seats all with individual arm and headrests?
- What about the option of having two single beds that also slide together to make a double?
- What about having a fitted toilet with its own sink with hot water and a sliding door?
- What about a large kitchen in the rear with an eye level fridge meaning no more bending down to access it?
- What about reversing the traditional pop top roof so the full height standing room is above the rear kitchen and toilet?
- What about topping it all off with another double bed in the roof?
This is The Cromford Volkswagen Transporter Based Campervan

This is pure luxury and convenience with a layout carefully designed to maximise the living space with more cupboards than traditional options. You can decide on making two single beds or switch to a double with one extra movement. The fixed Dometic cassette toilet has a slide out privacy door that can also be accessed from the tailgate. The underbody water tanks can supply pumped hot and cold water to the kitchen and bathroom sink as well as an activity shower.

Carefully designed to be more like a traditional motorhome layout but with the benefit of being able to park right in the town or seafront in any normal sized car parking space. The Cromford Volkswagen campervan is a great option for travellers that may struggle to walk greater distances and negates the need to park a larger motorhome out of town.

Once parked, the front seats seamlessly swivel and the table is slotted in to form a comfortable and spacious four-person dining layout. Maybe a portion of fish and chips right on the seafront or utilise the built-in combination 2-ring hob and sink, with an oven and grill to create a culinary masterpiece.

The rear tailgate lifts to provide overhead shelter with a built-in socket for an activity shower. You can access the campervan from the rear, through the galley kitchen and even have the option to add a tailgate awning and leave the beds made up during the day while on site.

There is the option to specify The Cromford VW Transporter campervan with a high-top roof allowing for more permanent storage cupboards, insulation, and soundproofing. Press a button to turn on the blown air heating and you’ll be as snug as a bug in a rug – even in the winter months.

Travelling in The Cromford is a joy, with all the seats incorporating individual armrests and headrests. Turn on the adaptive cruise control and the air conditioning for a comfortable journey. With a total of four vehicle mounted seat belted travelling seats this layout also gives unparalleled personal traveling space with the certified RIB rear seats mounted in a closer forward position with the benefit of access to the sliding windows on both sides of the campervan.

This is The Cromford. Designed by Hillside using innovative ideas and techniques and built with expert UK craftsmanship to create a luxurious traveling and outdoor living experience. With European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval it has the highest safety standard in our industry.
The only question is, where will you take it?
